How did your session go this week?

This week was about Foreign Policy – at least for my group. This was a very interesting session : we were only four, and this led to deeper reflections and discussions.

We tackled some global topics, as the ideal purpose of foreign policy, comparisons between WTO and the UN, or the link between democracy, possibility of expression and US safety.

This was really the most interesting session we had so far. I totally agree with Laurenciu last post about small groups : with 4 people, we can really discuss a lot easier than with 9.

We were ask to begin to work on our final project, whose final topic is now fixed. In addition to that, we have to finalize our video project – on which I already spent my week-end ;)

So far, I do really enjoy this Soliya program. In addition to improving my english – particulary the expression, it makes me ponder over a lot of things. Even if we have not a lot of time to discuss thing, a Soliya meeting feeds your mind in reflections for the whole week.

Hi,

this week, we dealed with the role that religion plays in our life.

Surprisingly, none of the US students attended to that session. Are such facts caused by the summer schedule or by a lack of interest in that module? Cause I personally believe that US citizen who are attending to that program are less interested, speak less than middle-east students.

As a positive fact, this was the first week we used notions in the articles we had to read... I don't think it was the session I preferred, but I enjoyed it.

Most of people of this session were muslim, one jewish, and some people were shocked that I don't believe in a God. But that's part of the game : confrontation of ideas, aren't always easy...

Then we discussed a few about the relationship which links politic to religion. And concluded general things like "religion should not be used to handle a war". What a pity! I'm a bit disappointed that dialogs are made of obvious ideas. I used to hope more profond reflexions...

PS: I've started the video work. That's quite a long work!!! I would have preferred we just watch less videos and speak about them, than making a movie.

This week, the seesion started without the US guys. I don't know why, but during meetings, they are those who speak the least: once, a girl was on her cell during a part of the session.

So the class was formed exclusively by arab student, except Fabien and I.
This week, for the first time we talk about the readings, more precisely about religion in our life and in our government. People were not at ease to voice about their own religion especially muslim students. It was hard to get an intersting debate, ideas stayed general and politicaly correct without confrontations: "religion is a way to love others..." and so on.

Before the session ended, we were told to start out final project and to finish our video project.

PS: I hace received an email that reported a blame for my being late and I reply that there was a tech issue that forbid me to connect to the main meeting room
