Hello everybody!

How is it going with your sessions? I know that sarah joins us since a week so I hope this is ok for her...

This week was again interesting, we speak about three personnal experiences which influence our vision of E/W relations, our which influence the construction of our personnality.
This is quite hard I think, because for me there is too much or not enough. I mean I didn't know how to choose. Finaly, I determine to speak about :
- a book : "les sirenes de bagdad" by yasmina khadra
It speak about how a man can becoma a terrorist, and this is really interesting...
- presidential election of 2002... Remember! (le pen on 2nd turn for foreign people)
- one of my exboyfriend which I discover to be racist... Let my hope in humanity :(
(maybe that is why now I prefer girls :) )

This was really interesting to hear everybody experiences, but the only problem was this was for me impossible to understand american people... With dialogue, this is approximatly ok, but when they speak long about their experience...

But I will improve!
I hope you will have also nice sessions!
bye...

In my group, this week's session was about Iraq and foreign policies. We also dealt with how the media were covering the war.

The Americans of our group did not felt very comfortable, as you can imagine. I understand how difficult it can be to be hated by a lot of people around the world for actions you did not supported.

This was an interesting session, with a smaller group – as last week was. Some points were particulary striking. Thus, I noticed that both ME people and Americans were expecting a war in Iran soon – while being strongly opposed to it. This was something new for me. I don't see how the US, bogged down in Iraq, could lead any other war. According to one of us, the only thing that was preventing it was the poor economical situation of the US, and most of the group agreed with that.

Another interesting point was the future of Iraq, after the withdrawal of the US. Arab people did thought that no other Arab country would help the Iraqi. They are expecting a crash as soon as the US leave Iraq. Moreover, the inner fightings in Iraq between Suni and Shiite are seen as threats to the stability of the whole region. Many other Arab governement fear that those fightings might spread in their country.

Speaking of that, make you somewhat proud to be French. But this feeling disapear when we move to the immigration issue ...

Great session anyway ;-)
